Kamilia's Shop - Vanilla Abaya Review

Thursday, January 9, 2014

I just love introducing you guys to Muslim owned stores from right here in Australia, and even more so from Melbourne as our smallish Muslim community may be mini compared to most nations but I feel we have real gumption and style. That is why I am pleased to introduce you to Kamilia's Shop. Based in Melbourne you can find them via Facebook and Instagram @kamilia_melbourne and the occasional pop up store (follow them on social media to keep up to date on their schedule)

Here I am in their very modest and beautiful Vanilla Abaya in a delicious deep red. Made of cotton and decked out in stunning embroidery along the cuffs and neckline, this abaya was very wisely made with a double layer for maximum comfort and modesty.

The sleeves are lined with gorgeous fabric buttons mid forearm length for accessibility during wudu and down the chest making nursing a breeze. Basically Vanilla have thought of everything when designing this perfect abaya!

I wore this abaya all day to 'road test' it for you guys and was very impressed. Comfortable, cool and most importantly very modest as the double layer and superior design prohibited any clinging.

This stunning abaya comes in many different shades, I recently saw it available in a stunning emerald green!

I decided to style this abaya with teal and ethnic embroidery. I purchased the stunning clutch for my sister (my sisters Instagram @nomadareff) and myself a couple of Eids ago and is hand embroidered complete with colourful pom-poms (anyone who has been following me for a while knows I LOVE POM-POMS!) The hijab is from Abaya Addict, the necklace, ring and I believe the cuff are from Lovisa.

  8. Aa Abla, wow, so pretty in a bold, bright, unfussy way - far from VANILLA you might say! I love the colour combination but people think I'm odd for pairing red and turquoise... It is a very common combination in Aztec art and I'm sure Frida Kahlo rocked it at some point too. That necklace is a piece of art! I saw one like it today in a rose quartz colour. Made me stare. Check your emails if you're not busy in Malaysia atm! L xx.
